Using a demo, recreate a Sportsnet Monday Night Football intro in Cinema 4D and After Effects. All materials and 3D objects were to be created by me and then the video cut together in After Effects.
Since I was creating all the objects and textures used in the intro, I wanted to be able to re-use certain things like textures, but change the colour from red to blue. Since metal textures are very reflective and can take a longer time to render, I did a few practice renders to see how long it might take to render the scene out.
Once I was able to get the render time down and keep a nice reflection on the metals, I focused more on creating the industrial vibe the intro was going for.
I'm very proud of how this intro came together and looks. After putting my personal computer through some surprisingly long renders I was worried this might take longer then I wanted to render out, which would cut into my editing time. I gave myself more time then I should, in theory, need to render and edit the intro together and it was the right call.
Having given myself the extra time allowed me to go back and re-render specific sections of the video that I felt could have come out better, which was the right call.
Although it was very time consuming creating everything in c4d from scratch, I had a lot of fun doing it and learned a lot of new things along the way. I was able to troubleshoot many issues I ran into by myself, test render to ensure my computer could handle the final render and do some clean up and extra edits with the extra time I saved myself.
